Start With the Right Custodian

A local booking can touch several offices. The jail handles county intake and custody, the arresting agency holds its own incident report, and the courts hold case filings and outcomes. The cards below keep those paths separate.

The MCSO request form does not state public counter hours or a flat booking-photo fee. It does require the requester to agree to processing costs, so ask for a cost estimate before charges are incurred. A current roster entry and an older booking record are different requests and may have different availability.

Where to Look for Each Record

Use the question, not a familiar agency name, to choose the next stop. A person can leave the county roster while the booking record remains with MCSO and the case continues in court.

• Current Muscogee custody: open the Muscogee County Superior and State Court ePortal, choose Public Access, then Jail Search. The jail contact is 706-653-4258. The portal is a county custody lookup, not the Georgia state-prison search.
• Booking sheet or booking photograph: use the MCSO Records Request form. The records unit lists 100 10th Street, Columbus, GA 31902, email at mcsoorr@columbusga.org, fax 706-653-4234, and phone 706-653-4225.
• Columbus Police incident report: go to Desk Services in the CPD Public Safety Building, 510 10th Street, Columbus, GA 31901. Other requests are directed to CPD Open Records.
• Charges, hearings, or disposition: use the court portal’s Smart Search and hearing tools. The Clerk of Superior and State Courts is at Government Center, 100 10th Street, Second Floor Tower, Columbus, GA 31901, with mail to P.O. Box 2145, Columbus, GA 31902. Listed hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The main number is 706-653-4370, State Court Criminal is 706-653-4368, and Superior Court Criminal is 706-653-4353. For a paper case copy, use the clerk’s Copy Request path.
• Sentenced state custody: search the Georgia Department of Corrections Offender Search. A GDC result describes state corrections, not a fresh Muscogee County Jail booking.
• Federal custody: use the Federal Bureau of Prisons Inmate Locator. BOP does not provide a public mugshot service, so a federal result is not a county booking photograph.
• Immigration detention: use the ICE Online Detainee Locator for ICE custody. An immigration detainer or ICE result is a separate custody process, not proof of a criminal conviction.
